Updated: Oct 12, 2022

Question via Quora.

There isn't one thing that will “stop” you from becoming the best software engineer and getting a job at Google. The path to becoming a great software engineer is different for everyone. It depends on your unique interests and abilities, as well as the available job openings at Google.

However, there are some general tips that may help you along the way:

1) Learn coding languages. Before you apply for a job at Google, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the coding languages used by the company. You can do this by taking online courses or reading books on the subject. Additionally, you can try coding in these languages using an online learning platform such as Codewars - Achieve mastery through coding practice and developer mentorship or CodingBat Java.

2) Build a strong resume and develop a network. Once you feel comfortable with coding languages, it's time to create a strong resume and build a network in the tech industry. This will help you land an interview with Google when the time is right. You can do this by attending tech events, building a personal website, and connecting with recruiters through social media and email.

3) Be patient and persistent. As with any career path, becoming a software engineer at Google takes time and effort. Be patient with yourself as you learn new skills, build your resume, and network with industry professionals. Also, be persistent in your search for available positions at Google. If one prospect doesn't work out, continue applying for other jobs until one fits your qualifications perfectly!

4) Many great software engineers at these companies had a FAANG Career mentor that guided them along the way to landing a job. Just as an actor hires an agent or an athlete hires a trainer. A mentor can give an engineer the proper guidance, tools, and motivation needed to better their odds of landing a job. For example, at Coachable we are selective in accepting the best coders who struggle to land jobs at FAANG companies, we then guide them to land these jobs with a 93% success rate. We’re hoping to place 1000+ people in FAANG+ jobs paying over $100,000 this year.
